Personal Statement and Therapeutic Approach

I am a psychodynamically-oriented psychotherapist committed to the therapeutic process as a respectful and collaborative journey. While I engage those who are managing life transitions and grappling with issues of anxiety, depression, trauma, interpersonal difficulties, relationship problems and creative blocks, I see self-actualization, mind/body integration, creativity, innovation and interpersonal connection as fundamental to the human experience. And as such, I address these concerns in a humanistic, integrative and holistic manner that utilizes the tenants of positive psychology and focuses on wellness, transcending preoccupation with psychopathology to work toward a life of self-awareness, deep meaning and interpersonal fulfillment. I consider it a great privilege to be entrusted with my clients’ most personal thoughts and deeply-held feelings, and as such I apply my capacity for empathy and compassion to foster self-acceptance, better understanding of unconscious processes, enhanced presence in the moment, authentic inter-connectedness and growth & development over the lifespan.

I began my psychology studies as an undergraduate at the University of California, Santa Cruz and soon after pursued graduate work at California School of Professional Psychology, Berkeley. Before finishing, I left the field to answer a compelling calling as a music producer, curator and artistic director. After more than twenty-five years of service in creatively-centered work and prepared with considerably richer life experience, I returned to my original passion, psychology, with a new determination to blend these mutually enhancing endeavors, receiving an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from The Wright Institute with additional post-graduate training in a broad-based modern psychodynamic orientation at the Family Service Agency of Marin, where I worked under Clinical Director Diane Suffridge, Ph.D and was supervised by Sarah Chapman, MS, MFT. I also served in an extended private practice internship in San Francisco, Berkeley and Kentfield under the supervision of Dr. Dedalus Hyde.
